PREHABILITATION

“Prehab” is the performance of an organized and monitored exercise program to help improve the strength and ROM in an area prior to a surgical procedure.

Research has shown a positive correlation of the utilization of prehab programs to improved outcomes after surgery1 to the reduction in placement in a rehabilitation unit2 after surgery.

Usually after an injury or prolonged episode of pain which has led someone to explore the option of a joint replacement surgery or other type of surgery, your body has already begun to under-facilitate muscles in the area which leads to increased weakness.

Increasing the strength prior to a surgery can help to improve our baseline level of strength in the area and help to restore full range of motion, leading to improved
strength after the surgery and improved outcomes.
